Auxiliary Scholarships

The WHT Auxiliary is a national non-profit organization dedicated to charitable organizations, such as the programs for handicapped riders, and the promotion of the Tennessee Walking Horse.

Each year the Auxiliary awards three scholarships in the amount of $2500 to high school graduates and college students. One scholarship is based on need; one is based on merit; and one is awarded to Auxiliary members and /or their families.
 

The criteria for each of these scholarships is:

• Academic and/or organization awards and recognitions
• Rank in class and size
• ACT or SAT scores (if not available, reason not taken yet)
• Official transcript
• Two letters of recommendation: one from a teacher and one from community member or church leader - other than relatives
• Community and church involvement
• Leadership positions (elected or appointed) - school or other organization
• Contributions to the Walking Horse industry
• Community recognition
• Financial needs
• Scholarships already being awarded
   

Each application is professionally evaluated and scored by several qualified professional people.

Scholarship recipients are notified by August 10th and awarded the last Friday night of the Celebration.
