President Hankins Clarifies Release
I would like to clarify the press release issued yesterday by the Walking Horse Trainers’ Association regarding the goals of the Unity Committee of which the WHTA is a participant. The release issued addressed a concern that we as professional trainers feel very strongly about . For the past several days we have been advised by our legal representatives regarding the issue and after a full board consultation it was the unanimous recommendation of our board of directors to release the statement drafted by our legal representatives.
WHTA Addresses Unity Committee GoalsOn November 30, 2011, the Boards of Directors for Walking Horse Trainers Association (WHTA), Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration (TWHNC), Walking Horse Owners Association (WHOA) and Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association (TWHBEA) formed what was termed a “Unity Committee”. However, since the formation of this Committee, it has become increasingly apparent that some members of the Committee appointed by TWHBEA and WHOA intend to use this Committee as a mechanism to propose to the USDA a modification of the shoeing and action device Regulations.
Riders’ Cup To Add Pleasure Division For 2012 SeasonThe Walking Horse Trainers’ Association (WHTA) recently appointed a Riders’ Cup committee chaired by Chad Williams to look at changes for the 2012 show season. The Riders’ Cup Committee consists of Williams, John Allan Callaway, Charlie Green, Edgar Abernathy and Larry Wheelon. The committee has reviewed a suggestion by exhibitors and trainers that a pleasure division be added in 2012 and has decided to implement that change in 2012.
National Trainers’ Show To Award 5X Riders’ Cup PointsThe 2012 Walking Horse Trainers’ Association (WHTA) National Trainers’ Show will be the first show in the history of the Riders’ Cup program to award 5X Riders’ Cup points. The National Trainers’ Show has historically offered triple-points and originally was the only triple-show. In recent years, The Celebration, Spring Fun Show, Delta Fall Classic and East Tennessee Fall Classic have sponsored the program and had their horse shows triple-points.
